Jailbreaking a Fire TV Stick is a much different technique that only requires changing a few options within Settings that will “Enable Unknown Sources,” so you are not actually altering the device!
Enabling Unknown Sources in Developer Options
Once you turn on this setting, you can now download Firestick applications that are not available in the Amazon App Store – this is called side-loading. These apps are referred to as third-party applications since Amazon does not host them in its official app store.
The reason for installing these applications is to access media (Movies, Series, Live Television, Sports, etc.) that you would not normally find from apps in the Amazon App Store.
It is more important than ever now to take advantage of this ability while it lasts, as Amazon is cracking down on third-party apps.
In fact, the new Fire TV Stick 4K Select from Amazon has removed side-loading capabilities altogether so that only apps from their app store may be installed. If you own this device, this guide will not work for you and you may want to consider an alternative Firestick/Fire TV.

How to Jailbreak a Firestick (Screenshot Guide)
The first step in this process is to install the free Downloader application. This is the hub for installing third-party apps that offer free movies, TV shows, live streaming, and more.
After installation, you must enable the option to install from unknown sources. We show all of the necessary steps below.
Step One – Install Free Downloader App
You can find this app by simply searching for it within the Amazon App Store. Downloading should take less than a minute.
1. Open the “Amazon App Store” or find the search bar on your device.
2. Type “Downloader” and click the first option that appears.
3. Select Downloader under Apps and games.
4. Click Download. Double check that this is the official application from AFTVnews.
5. Wait a few seconds for the Downloader app to install and you should see a message on the bottom right of your screen.
After you have installed this free application, return to the home screen of your device.
Step Two – Turn On Unknown Sources
This is the key step to jailbreaking a Fire TV Stick. It’s the only modification that we are making on the device. After doing this, your device is officially unlocked and you can find free media apps to install! There are two different methods for allowing unknown sources and we provide both below.
1. Open the settings and launch “My Fire TV”.
2. If you do not see “Developer Options” here, click About.
3. Click your device name 7 times until you see “No need, you are already a developer”.
4. Click back to return to Settings and select Developer Options.
5. Select Install Unknown apps.
6. Click Downloader.
7. Unknown sources for this app are now ON as pictured below.
Note: There’s only one toggle that must be enabled for older Firesticks.
Congrats! You have now officially “jailbroken” your Fire TV Stick. Now we’re getting to the good part!

Step Three – Access the TROYPOINT Toolbox

4. Type 250931 and hit the Go button.

7. As you can see, you can easily find popular applications with corresponding “download” and “tutorial” links.
Clicking download will install the app while the tutorial button directs you to a resource guide for the app you are interested in.

Step Four – Install Alternative App Stores

2. Wait a few seconds then click Install.

4. We suggest deleting the installation file so click Delete.
5. Click Delete again.
6. Go back into Settings and enable Unknown Apps for APKTime just like we previously did for Downloader.
