‘Jailbreaking’ is the process of removing restrictions imposed by the manufacturer (Google) to allow for the installation of 3rd party applications.
Technically, we aren’t actually jailbreaking the device because we aren’t installing modified firmware. But this term is how new cord-cutters search for this topic and that is how we came up with the title for this tutorial.
Once we’ve jailbroken a Google TV device, we can side-load applications onto the device that we normally can’t get through the Google Play Store.
If you don’t own a Google TV device, we recommend purchasing the Walmart Onn 4K Plus due to its low price point and great performance. Yes, the other Google TV devices may pack a bigger punch but oftentimes it is overkill for the average cord cutter.
This device comes with an included remote, the Google TV operating system, and lets users install apps directly on the device for all-inclusive streaming.

Before diving into the jailbreak process, you first want to ensure your Google TV device is updated with the latest software. To check for system updates click Settings -> About -> System update.
Then click Check for update. Our Google TV system is up to date so we are now ready to jailbreak this device.
How to Jailbreak Google TV Devices
In this example we are using a Walmart Onn 4K Plus, but this process will work for any device running Google TV OS (this includes Smart TVs which continue to gain popularity).
1. The first step we need to take is to enable Developer options on our device. Click the gear icon on the top right that says All settings.
2. Scroll down and click System.
3. Click About.

4. Scroll down and click Android TV OS Build about 7 times to enable developer options.
5. After doing this successfully you should see a message that reads “No need you are already a developer.”
6. Now click the back button on remote and Developer options will be enabled under System menu.
7. After enabling Developer options we can now install third-party apps. First hover over Apps from the home screen.
8. Click the search box to search for apps.
9. Enter “downloader” and click the search icon.
10. Select the official Downloader app by AFTVnews.
11. Click Install.
12. Wait for Downloader to install on your device.
13. Then click Open.
14. Click OK.
15. Click the search box on the home screen of Downloader.
16. Enter the code 250931 and click Go.
17. You are now on the TROYPOINT Toolbox.
18. Scroll down to install any third-party application you prefer. In this instance we are installing the latest version of Kodi. Click Download.
19. A message will appear, click Settings.
20. Click the toggle for Downloader to turn on unknown apps.
21. Click Install.
22. Click Done.
23. Click the back button on your remote and click Delete to get rid of installation file.
24. Click Delete again.
25. Now return to the home screen of your Google TV device and you should notice your newly installed application.

Install Third Party App Store
Side-loading one application like Kodi is just the beginning. Now that you have jailbroken your Google TV device we can install a third-party app store for hundreds of apps.
1. Return back to the TROYPOINT Toolbox on the Downloader app. Then scroll down to find APKTime and click Download.
2. After installing APKTime open the application. This app store holds hundreds of APKs and you can choose any you prefer.
3. In this instance we are installing BeeTV from APKTime. Find your preferred app and click Download.
4. When this message appears click Settings.
5. Just like the previous example, click the toggle for APKTime to turn on unknown apps.
6. Then click the back button and you should get an option to install BeeTV. Click Install.
7. You have successfully installed another thid-party app on your Google TV device.
