There’s good news for cable and live TV streaming customers who are interested in the new ESPN app. Pay TV customers, including those subscribed to YouTube TV, DIRECTV, and other live TV streaming services will be able to use their credentials to login to the new app when it launches on August 21.

On the ESPN website, a frequently asked questions section says:

Will subscribers still be able to get ESPN via cable bundles?

Yes. ESPN will continue to be distributed via Pay TV providers. Pay TV subscribers will have access to the enhanced features within the ESPN App via their Pay TV subscriptions

A post on the ESPN Front Row blog specifically lists cable and live TV streaming services, saying “In addition to ESPN DTC subscribers, fans that access ESPN through a traditional pay TV provider, e.g. Comcast, DirectTV, Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, will also have access to the new features through the enhanced ESPN App.”

While those customers already have access to the lineup of ESPN channels, being able to login to the app will unlock more features. The Front Row post promises “new features, more personalization and smarter functionality.”

The new app will launch on August 21 and will cost $29.99 per month for those who don’t already have access through their cable or streaming subscription. The app will give users all of their ESPN content in one place, which includes sports played on linear channels ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNEWS, and ESPN+.
