Fubo Plans to Launch Cheaper Fubo Sports Service in the Coming Weeks

In today’s quarterly earnings call, Fubo briefly mentioned plans to launch a new “skinny” sports streaming service soon, noting a need for more competition in the streaming space and more options for consumers.

In a report shared with the company’s financial results, Fubo wrote:

We are dedicated to offering consumers a variety of content options at reasonable prices. This commitment is highlighted by the launch of Fubo Sports, in which we aim to bring to market a focused service at an attractive price point. We expect to launch Fubo Sports in the coming weeks.

While the timeline of launching “in the coming weeks” is new, plans for a new sports service are not. We heard about the plans earlier this year when Fubo and Disney first discussed the merger of Fubo and Hulu. As part of that deal, Fubo said that it would launch what they called an innovative sports-only streaming bundles designed to cater to sports enthusiasts across North America, featuring Disney-owned sports content.

“This merger with Hulu + Live TV has given us the scale and support to realize our goal of becoming the ultimate streaming destination for sports lovers,” Fubo CEO David Gandler said in a statement at that time. “Our new Sports & Broadcasting Service, paired with localized sports bundles, offers fans a cost-effective way to access the games they care about most, without the clutter of channels they don’t watch.”

Details, including a launch date and pricing, have not yet been shared, though there are rumors that the service will launch in the $40-$50 per month range, which was the proposed price point of Venu Sports before that joint venture from Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery fell through.
