The UAE Federal Traffic Council has announced that drivers who drive accident-free and follow traffic rules on August 25 can get four black points removed from their driving licenses. The announcement was made on Monday as part of the annual Accident-Free Day campaign.
Schools reopening in UAE on August 25
Monday, August 25, the day when schools reopen across the UAE, is expected to see extremely heavy traffic on the roads. Keeping this in mind, the Traffic Council said those who pledge to follow traffic rules on that day will he rewarded for their good behaviour.

Take a pledge, follow traffic rules
All you have to do is sign an online pledge to follow basic traffic rules on August 25 and you will have four black points removed from your driving license by September 25.
The simple traffic rules one has to follow include wearing seatbelts, following speed limits, leaving a safe distance between other vehicles, respecting pedestrian safety, giving way for emergency vehicles, ambulances, police, and official convoys, and avoiding distractions such as mobile phone use.
Black point system in UAE
For the uninitiated, the UAE has a black point system to penalise erring drivers on the road. Traffic rule violations could result in 2 to 24 points, depending on severity, in addition to the fines. Any driver who accumulates 24 black points within 12 months will have their licence suspended for a certain period of time, depending on the severity of the rule breaches.
How to get rid of black points
Drivers who have black points on their licenses can get rid of them by initiatives, including attending a traffic awareness course, taking part in the Accident-Free Day initiative, and not violating any traffic rules for a period of six months.
