EXCLUSIVE: Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones) has joined Swedish drama Where the Sun Always Shines, which has been renewed for a second season by SkyShowtime.
Comcast and Paramount owned SkyShowtime said the first season of the show was a breakout hit on its European streaming service. Johan Glans and Celie Sparre also join the cast and cameras are now rolling on Season 2.
Where the Sun Always Shines (aka Där Solen Alltid Skiner) was created and directed by Felix Herngren (Bonus Family). Season 2 sees the return of Per Lasson, Lisa Linnertorp, Erik “Jerka” Johansson and Rakel Wärmländer. The new season picks up where the first left off, following the two ex-pat families as they attempt to build a new life in the Spanish sun, while continuing to grapple with unresolved conflicts and complex family dynamics.
Kristofer Hivju takes the role of Anker, an eccentric Norwegian intellectual and artist who rejects the idea of modernity in favor of exploring his growing obsession with Roman ideals.
“I loved Season 1, and it’s a real joy to join this incredible cast as ‘Anker,’ a character I hope will bring plenty of life and stir things up where the sun always shines,” Hivju said. “Working with Felix Herngren and the rest of the team has been an absolute pleasure, and I can’t wait for audiences to see what’s in store for season two.”
Where the Sun Always Shines is produced by Scandinavian production company FLX . SkyShowtime and Swedish pubcaster SVT are co-producers.
SkyShowtime has a pipeline of hit U.S. series that come from its parent companies, but has been adding to these with local originals from various territories. Its Scandi originals include sports doc Schmeichel, crime drama Veronika and the upcoming series The Trio (Trion), which premieres on 1 June.
